Player of the Season Award

The Player of the Season Award was decided by a combination of votes online and in person from fans at the match vs Eastleigh. The result in ascending order was:

  • In third place, Moussa Diarra
  • In second place following what looks like a successful social media campaign by his fans, Solomon Nwabuokei
  • And the winner was <fx:drumroll> Max Kretzschmar.

The win was not surprising, give Max’s dominance of the Player of the Month awards. The prize was awarded at the 100th year birthday party at the Laithwaite Community Stadium along with other awards for Academy Player of the Year and Goal of the Season (well done Kyran Lofthouse!)

Max also won the Dennis Potter Trophy for Player’s Player of the Season award.

For the academy, the awards were:

  • Outstanding 1st Year Player – Ellis Osbourne
  • Outstanding 2nd Year Player – Sean Swift
  • Outstanding Overall Player – Trevor Caborn

Bob Raikes was awarded the Andy Turner prize as Volunteer of the Year for his work over four seasons on the programmes.

Thanks to Waitrose Goldsworth Park for their support of the champagne during the season and the special champagne for the POS.

The Academy Awards

Scott Harrison said that it has been a successful season for the Academy, despite all the breaks in play due to the lock down. It was a difficult decision to choose the award winners as there were many players that have contributed to a great season; any one of the squad that were regulars in the FA Youth Cup played a major part.
The main highlights from this season were:.

  • The FA Youth Cup run saw us reach the 3RD Round for the first time in 25 Years – eventually losing at Brighton and Hove Albion.
  • In the 1st Round proper of that run we were away at Leyton Orient and came from 2 goals down to win the game 3-2; a performance to be really proud of
  • We were sitting 2nd in the National South U19s League until it was curtailed
  • A number of Academy Players gained 1st team opportunities and there were National League Debuts from Jack Skinner, Leo Hamblin, Sam Evans, Selim Saied & Jayden Wareham, who also scored 2 National League Goals at the age of 17.
  • Leo Hamblin played full 90-minute performances at the back end of the National League season
  • Jayden Wareham deservedly joined Chelsea after all the work put into him by the Academy staff over the last 2 years

The winners from the Academy were:

  • 1st Year Academy Player Of The Year – Jack Bingham
  • 2nd Year Academy Player Of The Year – Jake Rumble
  • Academy Player of the Year – Trevor Caborn

The trophy was presented by Rupert Philips after the Wealdstone game along with another bottle of champagne, kindly donated by Waitrose, Watchmoor Park. Thanks to them, too.

The Trust also announced that thanks to fan contributions and donations to the Boost the Budget fund, the 400 Club , Goldrush ticket sales, the Capital Contribution (from share holdings) and the Quiz Night, monies of just under £30,000 were transferred to Dowse’s playing budget during the 19/20 season.

New Boost the Budget forms are now available on the Trust website – if you can contribute it would certainly help Dowse as every penny the Trust raise in this way goes towards the playing budget, thank you. COYC!

Player of the Season Virtual Awards Dinner

Plans are in place for a virtual “End of Season Awards” dinner which will be an opportunity for all fans to get in a takeaway and a tipple, say thank you to the players, hear from the manager and chairman and congratulate the winners of the Fans’ Player of the Season and other awards.

This is a great opportunity for those that are ‘remote fans’ and cannot usually attend such events.

The event will take place on Saturday 27th June and will be part of the Woking FC Community Day. It will operate via ‘Zoom’ and log-in tickets cost £5.00.

The evening will include a photoreel of the season, season highlights, goal of the season, a short quiz, a few words from Dowse and the Chairman and who knows what else! The awards will include the Academy, goal of the season and the fans’, players’ and manager’s player of the season. The management team will be there and we are expecting a good player turnout as well.

Spaces are limited so book your space without delay. You can book your place here.
