Player of the Season Award

The Player of the Season Award was decided by a combination of votes online and in person from fans at the match vs Eastleigh. The result in ascending order was:

  • In third place, Moussa Diarra
  • In second place following what looks like a successful social media campaign by his fans, Solomon Nwabuokei
  • And the winner was <fx:drumroll> Max Kretzschmar.

The win was not surprising, give Max’s dominance of the Player of the Month awards. The prize was awarded at the 100th year birthday party at the Laithwaite Community Stadium along with other awards for Academy Player of the Year and Goal of the Season (well done Kyran Lofthouse!)

Max also won the Dennis Potter Trophy for Player’s Player of the Season award.

For the academy, the awards were:

  • Outstanding 1st Year Player – Ellis Osbourne
  • Outstanding 2nd Year Player – Sean Swift
  • Outstanding Overall Player – Trevor Caborn

Bob Raikes was awarded the Andy Turner prize as Volunteer of the Year for his work over four seasons on the programmes.

Thanks to Waitrose Goldsworth Park for their support of the champagne during the season and the special champagne for the POS.

Volunteers at the Laithwaite

The Club is looking for volunteers to act as guides and helpers for potential help after the up-coming match against Hartlepool (for which, there are enough). Details are in the document below.

Volunteers

Depending on the government’s decision on stadia at our level re-opening to fans in October, when Woking should have their first home match of the season on Saturday 3rd October against Solihull Moors, we are currently working on the basis that fans will be able to attend, albeit in limited numbers.

Whilst all of us are awaiting the further government guidance, we at Woking Football Club need to plan this in the context of being COVID safe, and now we need to ask supporters whether they can help us achieve this on match days at The Laithwaite Community Stadium.

There will be various opportunities for fans to volunteer and offer their help – this will allow a limited number of fans to be able to access the match as a thank you for their commitment to the club.

Whilst we are finalising the arrangements, some of the tasks we are likely to need fans to help with include temperature checks, ticket scanning, general marshalling within the ground, assistance with setting up and removing barriers, and general duties. Volunteers are likely to be required from 1pm on Saturdays and 6pm for evening matches (times TBC). The commitment would only be up until kick-off, at half-time, and potentially after the match there may be some help needed with marshalling for a short period.

If you feel that you can commit to helping the club either on a Saturday or Tuesday on a regular basis with any of these tasks please contact Rupert Phillips at rupert.phillips@cardstrust.co.uk no later than Wednesday 23rd September, thank you.

Your help will enable us to get through this season together, the Cards Trust is committed to supporting the Board to help make this happen.
